On Wednesday, Mojang published a pre-release build of Minecraft 1.8.1; the first incremental patch to emerge in the wake of last month's Minecraft 1.8 Update. As is typically the case, the follow-up patch doesn't offer any new blocks, features or other gameplay mechanics, instead focusing on eliminating the various bugs and crashes still cause problems for the Minecraftcommunity.
Along with the bug fixes, Minecraft 1.8.1 includes a number of performance optimizations; however, the accompanying blog post from Mojang didn't go into as much detail about the ways in which users can expect the game's performance to improve.
This week also saw Minecraft dev Nathan "Dinnerbone" Adams" take down the oldest pair of bugs still sitting in the game's ever-growing/shrinking database of known issues. Going forward, Minecraft players should find that their facing no longer changes after using a nether portal and that a bug causing item drops to appear in the wrong location has been patched, too. The well-known Minecraft dev also confirmed the studio plans to release a second Minecraft 1.8.1 pre-release on Thursday.
